Needleye Robotics Srl, is an Italian startup that aims at reshaping prostate cancer diagnosis and therapy by applying robotic and artificial intelligent technologies to the standard prostate biopsy procedure.
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death of the male population. There are 1.3 million new cases/year globally, 350,000 deaths, with 1/9 man developing prostate cancer. To detect these cases, 1.5 million biopsies/year are performed in EU, 2 million in US and 10-15 million are projected globally by 2030. South Asia, South America and Africa are showing a rapid growth of prostate cancer.
A physical biopsy is the gold standard to detect prostate cancer, but its proper diagnosis is affected by more than 25% false negatives. These errors are due to the difficulties in the target identification and in the biopsy execution. Therefore, patients receiving a wrong negative diagnosis are not treated properly, and many patients may be overtreated by undergoing radical surgery.
Needleye Robotics technologies will overcome the causes of the diagnostic errors by using Artificial Intelligence algorithms in identifying and tracking the target positions in real time during the biopsy execution. Our robotic targeting system ensures that the needle is inserted correctly independently of the physician experience.
Furthermore, the accuracy and repeatability of needle positioning support the application of local ablation of prostate cancer, which is a growing alternative to radical surgery, especially where adequate surgical facilities are not available.

Our standard product, the Flapper Nimble+, is the world’s first hover-capable flapping-wing robot available. It is an insect-inspired development platform with open-source software tools for academic research, industry R&D, STEM education as well as drone shows. Having a wingspan of 49-cm while weighing just over 100 grams, it is a safe platform with soft flapping wings, which even provide a certain level of collision tolerance. It supports various indoor positioning systems and has a 25-gram payload capacity. Being supported by the Crazyflie ecosystem, it runs the open-source Crazyflie firmware and is compatible with various open-source tools for high-level control and swarming based on Python and ROS.
Next to the Nimble+, we develop custom bioinspired drone platforms and drone systems for swarm research or drone show development, tailored to the customers’ requirements and needs. We can customize the size, visual appearance (angle, hummingbird, butterfly…), wing-shape, light effects, etc.

Independent Robotics is a rapidly growing company based in Montreal, Canada, one of the world’s hottest environments for state-of-the-art AI and robotics research. We develop exciting robotics technologies, including both hardware and software solutions. We focus on marine applications. Our solutions are built on a foundation of core robotics algorithms, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, and vision processing.
The company is an active member of the global community of researchers pushing the boundaries of robotics, and our robotics and AI platforms are in use across North America.
Independent Robotics is now working to branch out into larger commercial markets and is in the process of exploring several industry partnerships in aquaculture and infrastructure monitoring. Our robots have operated autonomously in a wide range of environments, from oceans to rivers to lakes, as well as on land, and can be equipped with diverse vision and sensor payloads. The proprietary software solutions we build and deliver all use the industry-standard ROS2 platform and all custom hardware in rugged waterproof enclosures. These interfaces are paired with cutting-edge AI/ML techniques for navigation, object detection, mission execution, and more. We have also developed advanced simulators that allow us to test our robotics platforms before deploying them in the real world and have shared these simulators with several academic institutions.
KELO Robotics is a start-up in the field of autonomous mobile logistics robots (AMRs) and mobile manipulation, located in Augsburg, Germany, and founded in 2020. Under the motto "Cheaper, greener, safer!" and based on a disruptive design concept adopted from the automotive industry, we have developed a new generation of mobile logistics robots.
Our robots differ from existing solutions in four key areas: a) they are cost-efficient and affordable not only to large logistics enterprises but also to smaller organizations that urgently need to automate their intralogistics, b) they have a small footprint and weigh a fraction of current AMRs and AGVs, resulting in lower energy consumption, c) they are inherently safe—designed to be easily pushed aside if they approach a human in an undesired way, and d) they can be rapidly customized to meet specific customer needs and integrate with existing intralogistics systems at relatively low costs.
A highlight of our offering is KELO ROBILE, a modular prototyping kit consisting of robotics building blocks such as wheels, batteries, and computers, that enables the creation of robust mobile platforms. These bricks can be easily assembled, reconfigured, and expanded to suit various applications. KELO ROBILE is designed to integrate seamlessly with a wide range of robotic extensions, including cobots, using ROBILE adapters, making it an ideal solution for rapid prototyping and customization in diverse robotics environments.
